A Message from Kogi State 1st Lady Mrs Rashida Bello as Kogi turns 25

Hurray Kogi is 25!

I, wish to heartily felicitate with the Executive Governor of the state, His Excellency, Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello, the Deputy Governor, Prince Simon Achuba, the Speaker of Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt.Hon Mohammed Imam and the entire good people of the state on the celebration of silver jubilee of the state.

It was first an idea, it became an agitation and just before we knew it, it became a reality. Now it is 25 years and we roll out the drums to celebrate God's mercy. The attainment of 25 years old in the life    of a human being is no mean feat. It is a sign of maturity.

Indeed, Kogi has come of age and we are happy that in spite of initial distractions, when we look back in the last 25 years, we can confidently say that the dreams and vision of our founding fathers are now finding true expressions, especially with the renewed Vigor and vision  of the Yahaya Bello-led administration.

It is against this background that I  congratulate all Kogites at home and in the Diasporas on this land mark occasion of the state turning 25. Twenty-five years in the life of the state is by no means insignificant.

While assuring you of the resolve of the present government to drive the state on the path of sustainable development, I seek your support for the administration to realize its goal to make the state the cynosure of all eyes.
It's possible..... We can......And we shall!

Congratulations once again!

Signed:
 Her Excellency, Mrs Rashida Bello
 Kogi State First Lady

French court suspends ban on Muslim women swimwear 'Burkini'

France’s highest administrative court has ruled that the ban on muslim female swimwear 'burkini' being enforced on the country’s beaches are illegal and a violation of fundamental liberties. More than 30 French towns have banned burkinis, which cover the whole body except for the face, hands and feet.  Officials say the ban on the burkini was a response to growing terror concerns.
Human rights activists however argued that such measures are illegal, and that pushes to outlaw the garment are Islamophobic. The ruling of the State Council suspends the ban in the town of Villeneuve-Loubet, near Nice, and this could now affect cities around the country that have prohibited the full-length swimsuit.

In their ruling, three senior judges said the ban was clearly an illegal blow to fundamental liberties such as the freedom of movement, freedom of conscience and personal liberty. They found that no evidence produced in favour of the prohibition proved a risk to public order was being caused by women wearing such swimwear.

Four surveyors who drowned in Ekiti river not World Bank officials – Agency says

There were reports online yesterday that the four surveyors that died in the boat mishap at the Egbe River in Ekiti state on Wednesday August 24th (read here), were World bank staff. The Third National Urban Water Sector Reform agency whose project the deceased persons were working on, this morning released a statement making the clarification that the deceased persons namely Alaran Tirimisiyu, Abdulwaheed Alayande, David Malu and Albert, were not staff members of the World bank. Read the statement below...

“The Unfortunate drowning of four workmen working as topo-surveyors on Egbe Dam is highly regretted and unfortunate and a loss too many. The Third National Urban Water Sector Reform Project is a project funded by the World Bank with a target to achieve maximum reform in Ekiti State water sector. While we lament the sad loss, we wish to state that the Consultant was awarded the assignment to carry out Bathymetry Survey of four dams in the state biz: Ureje, Egbe, Itapaji and Ero. The sad incident happened because some safety measures were not adhered to by the deceased: refusal to wear life jackets and those who survived wore life jackets provided by the company. It should be noted that neither World Bank official nor Water Corporation staff member was involved. Ekiti State Government commiserates with the families of the departed and pray God to grant them the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.”
